Alberta firefighters can spend more time protecting their communities thanks to Bill 49

The Alberta Fire Chiefs Association is supporting a change in legislation that will protect municipalities from liability so they can keep Albertans safe during an emergency. Bill 49 Municipal Government Amendment Act No. 2 2009 will protect fire departments and municipalities that act in good faith and with good intentions while providing emergency assistance.

“We are pleased that a positive step has been taken to continue to keep Albertans safe,” said Alberta Fire Chiefs Association President, Brian Cornforth. “Bill 49 will help keep our firefighters out on calls and fire departments across Alberta will benefit from this needed legislation. Firefighters are dedicated to their work in serving their communities. This legislative change is a positive step in our ability to keep citizens and communities safe.” The Alberta Fire Chiefs Association is pleased that Bill 49 is progressing and will be communicating with its members in municipalities across Alberta to show support for this legislation. The status of Bill 49 will be updated at www.assembly.ab.ca.
